Professional Bio

I have 25+ years of experience in practicing and teaching healing arts, investing 10,000+ hours in meditation, and more in yoga, martial arts, other fitness, dance, and improv theatre.

I began this journey from a place of severe physical and emotional pain. I slowly crawled out of a dark hole through educating myself and doing what worked. I discovered there is something that doesn’t break. I continue because life with these practices is fascinating, healthy, I feel whole, generally happy, and there is so much more.

I am a certified health coach, fitness trainer, and behavior change specialist (American Council on Exercise). I have taught thousands of people through corporate and public classes on meditation, stress resiliency, listening, emotional intelligence, compassionate communication, and coaching behavior change.

I am also an advanced energy healer, yogi, and meditation teacher, and have studied extensively with several Masters. I hold certifications as a Sekhem-Seichim-Reiki Master (Level VII) and Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki Master (Level IV), but I am predominantly developing an intuitive and holistic healing approach. I started doing yoga before it was popular (1996), am a certified teacher (eRYT-500, YACEP), and after 20+ years, have evolved a unique approach incorporating prana/qi energy practices with proper alignment and focus.

I am Abbot Emeritus of the Cincinnati Zen Center, participating in >150 Zen retreats and related trainings over the years. I developed the Meditation Without Expectations™ 8-week online course during COVID, which has supported thousands of people in >30 countries to reduce their stress, increase resiliency, mindfulness, and empathy. The study on this effective program was recently published in Current Psychology (link).

I spent most of my life working as an environmental science and sustainability expert, collaborating with governments, NGOs, universities, and corporations all over the world. I have a Ph.D. in Toxicology and Marine Sciences (North Carolina State University) and a B.S. in Zoology/Genetics (University of Wisconsin). As a Principal Scientist at Procter & Gamble (P&G), I led studies and strategies for transformative sustainable innovations that move beyond ‘business as usual’ and contributed to new scientific methods and legislation. I have published dozens of papers ranging across 5 scientific disciplines, chaired numerous cross-sector committees, been elected to international scientific Boards, and provided keynote addresses at global conferences.

While my contributions to advance science and protect the environment are highly respected and appreciated, my teaching and mentoring thousands of technical and non-technical professionals about real environmental risks and sustainability is also a positive legacy. I entered this complex field almost 4 decades ago, inspired to save the natural world with other well-informed scientists, or at least slow down its destruction. I have truly loved this work and am now realizing that I may have greater impact as a coach, healer, and consultant. My sustainability work has shifted to support people to awaken, become more aware, choose differently, and act for us all.
